Shiva came first at the 22nd Dutch Festival for Vocal Groups in Almelo

To get up at 5.30 in the morning is not something musicians are used to but on Saturday the 12th of April we had no choice because there was a long travel to the other side of the country to participate at a contest.

Our first performance was scheduled for 11.15. We had a 3 hours drive, so we had to do our vocal warming up in the car. You would be surprised how good the acoustics are of a Toyota Yaris driving at 90 mph ;-). When we arrived there was just enough time to practise two songs. The rest of the time, before our first gig started, we spend stuffing ourselves with sandwiches and coffee.

We were pleasantly surprised that so many people came to watch and hear us sing. Our second performance was in front of a jury just a couple of meters away from us. No need to say that we were nervous but we did well. Very well because at the end of a wonderful day the jury choose Shiva Knows as the winner of the festival. Yess, we did it again!! ;-)

Here are some quotes of the members of the jury:

Perfect match of people able to switch between solo and group sound. Everybody has an expression fitting the music. Everybody knows how to make music and to touch me. Great!! I’d love to visit a concert.

(Maria van Nieuwkerken)

I think this composition of people works out fine; two wonderful female voices and a countertenor! Besides the fact you sound fantastic, it’s nice to see that you know where you’re singing about!

(Hans Cassa)

The vocal percussion fits in this group as in integrated part! Nice leads, low flexible bass and a moment of pure delight in the middle! Mutual!

(Lizzie Kean)

Just one word: FANTASTIC!

(Margriet Hoek)

Nice dynamics, perfect ensemble! This is what touches me!

(Ruud van der Meer)

Thanks to the wonderful audience and all the people of this very well organized festival.
